I hope the roof flies off and I get sucked up into space.
This past summer, I started the fun but short-lived habit of going to the movie theatre once a week. Summer fare a la explosions, car chases and comic book characters isn't typically my genre of choice, so it only took several months before I ran out of anything that even remotely interested me. Now that award season is approaching and popcorn flicks have wound down, I'm hoping to restart my theatre-going routine. But for now, my favorite film of 2012 has to be "Moonrise Kingdom."
Directed by Wes Anderson, the story takes place in 1965 on New Penzance, a fictitious island off the New England coast. Two twelve-year-olds, khaki scout Sam (Jared Gilman) and cat-toting Suzy (Kara Hayward), make a secret pact to run away together into the wilderness ... but unbeknownst to them, a dangerous storm is approaching. Ridiculously quotable and charmingly whimsical, I'm pretty sure I was grinning like a fool through most of this. Also starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman, make sure you check this one out!
